Yarra River Inventory of Values and Threats assessment
We were engaged by Melbourne Water to conduct a vegetation assessment using the Inventory of Values and Threats methods for a section of the Yarra River in Yarra Junction. The purpose of this survey was to assist Melbourne Water in developing vegetation management priorities across a specified reach of the River. Recommendations complimented works on adjacent crown land and a concept level design was developed to prioritise management over a 10-year time frame.
This study made use of Melbourne Water’s well-established inventory of values and threats methodology, allowing quick and accurate surveys of a 7.5 km of the Yarra River for vegetation assessment. As part of the delivery, we developed a concept works program that considered both ecological drivers and challenges for the reach. The concept works plan highlighted opportunities for substantial improvement in the condition of the Yarra and addressed invasive species and described an extensive revegetation program.
