Planning for urban riparian corridor in the ACT

An urban riparian corridor is essential for protecting aquatic ecosystems and provide opportunities for human-based values including recreation, active travel routes and amenity. Alluvium and EcoFutures investigate the various values of riparian corridors in urban Canberra and identify their requirements regarding maintenance, management, and permissible land use. The project analysed current treatment of water courses and drainage lines and proposed possible solutions to protect, enhance or reinstate riparian values, recognising the original hydrological regime in terms of water quality and quantity, including during floods. The project recommended a set of principles that should be embedded in planning for ACT urban riparian corridors in future.
