The marram baba Regional Parklands Plan

We led stakeholder engagement and developed the marram baba Merri Creek Regional Parklands Future Directions Plan, balancing Wurundjeri cultural values, ecological protection, and public access across 2,700 hectares of parkland in Melbourne’s north.

The marram baba Merri Creek Regional Parklands Future Directions Plan was commissioned by the Victorian Government to guide the long-term management of more than 2,700 hectares of public land along a 15-kilometre stretch of Merri Creek in Melbourne’s northern suburbs—one of the fastest growing regions in Australia. As one of the five major tributaries to the Yarra River, Merri Creek connects a diverse and ecologically significant corridor of open space that also holds deep cultural significance for the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people.

Alluvium was engaged to lead stakeholder and community consultation and deliver the Future Directions Plan. Working closely with Traditional Owners, local councils, state agencies, and land managers, we designed a plan that balances environmental protection, cultural heritage, and public use.

The plan supports Wurundjeri aspirations, protects critical habitat for species like the Growling Grass Frog and Golden Sun Moth, and proposes an extensive trail network to connect people with Country and nature.
