Growling Grass Frog Conservation Management Plan

Alluvium, with TactEcol Consulting, updated the Conservation Management Plan for Cardinia Road to protect Growling Grass Frog habitats by integrating the latest ecological standards with urban development needs.

To ensure the long-term survival of the Growling Grass Frog within the Cardinia Road Employment Precinct, an updated Conservation Management Plan (CMP) is essential. Since the original 2010 CMP, scientific understanding, conservation best practices, and policy guidelines have evolved, necessitating a comprehensive review. With early development already underway, this update is urgent to protect and enhance frog habitats while accommodating urban growth.

Alluvium, in collaboration with TactEcol Consulting, led the development of a new CMP based on the latest standards under the Melbourne Strategic Assessment. Our approach identified existing and proposed Growling Grass Frog habitats, defined habitat corridors ensuring long-term connectivity, and established wetland design specifications tailored to the species’ needs. Additionally, we outlined detailed management actions, funding mechanisms, and implementation strategies.

With deep expertise in Growling Grass Frog conservation, wetland design, hydrology, and ecological planning, we brought a proven track record of collaboration with Cardinia Shire, Melbourne Water, and DELWP. This project is a critical step in balancing ecological preservation with urban development, ensuring a sustainable future for both biodiversity and the local community.
