Fiji Ecosystem Management Plan
Alluvium supported the Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP) by leading ecological assessments, stakeholder engagement, and the development of an inclusive, community-endorsed ecosystem management plan for Fiji’s Navua catchment and Beqa Lagoon.

As part of the Pacific-European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP) programme, which supports sustainable ocean governance and climate resilience across the Pacific, Alluvium worked to enhance integrated ecosystem management in Fiji’s Navua catchment and Beqa Lagoon. The project focused on strengthening food security, marine biodiversity conservation, and sustainable livelihoods through a ridge-to-reef approach.
Alluvium led the assessment of ecological health and climate-related threats across coastal and catchment systems, while applying a gender, social inclusion, and poverty alleviation lens. Our team engaged communities and stakeholders to build understanding and support for locally relevant adaptation actions and developed a widely endorsed ecosystem management plan. This plan prioritised practical, equitable solutions to improve the natural adaptive capacity of coastal environments and ensure long-term benefits for human and ecological wellbeing. We also delivered targeted capacity building that empowered local authorities, women, men, and youth to participate in resource management and decision-making — ensuring that project outcomes were not only environmentally sustainable but also socially inclusive and locally owned.
