Blueprint for a Sustainable Moreton Bay

EcoFutures worked with The Moreton Bay Foundation to develop a 10-year blueprint (2025–2035) that integrates policy, science, and community priorities to guide sustainable management and ensure the long-term health and resilience of Moreton Bay.

Moreton Bay is a region of global environmental significance, home to diverse ecosystems, rich biodiversity, and stunning land and seascapes that support the livelihoods and lifestyles of communities across South East Queensland. However, with growing environmental and development pressures, a strategic, integrated approach is needed to ensure the Bay’s long-term sustainability.

EcoFutures, Mosiac Insights and Natural Capital and Climate, in collaboration with The Moreton Bay Foundation (TMBF), led the development of a blueprint for action (2025–2035) to address legislative, policy, and management gaps and identify priority programs for the Bay’s sustainable management. This project aims to align and integrate existing strategies, ensuring coordinated and effective actions at scale.

The study involves a holistic review of existing knowledge and management efforts, assessment of social, economic, and ecological values and threats, and identification of barriers and opportunities for improving the Bay’s health. The resulting blueprint served as a guiding document for decision-making, research, engagement, and advocacy—ensuring a healthier, more resilient Moreton Bay for future generations.
